We
want to show you a few examples of newly written materials that
we think are firstly inspirational.
Terraforming
is the study into whether it is right to make another planet like
earth if we have the technology to do so, so that maybe we could
in the future go and live there. In teaching these materials we
have found that the setting of the work is interesting to the
majority of pupils thinking about morally out side of the earth’s
confines seems to help them to think clearly about their beliefs
without touching on issues they already have a belief system about.
The unit is literally out of this world
In the 11-14year old materials pupils are asked to design a perfect
planet out of their study of what we are doing to our world as
well as thinking through moral choices we can make about the universe.
It takes for it’s stimulus an extract from ‘A Hitch-hiker’s Guide
to the galaxy’ , which as it turns out is rather an inspiring
source, considering the Hollywood film and the interest this will
have created in our pupils.
In
trials we have found that boys have been very motivated about
using these materials, girls become more so once it reaches the
human interest point. It has enable boys to look at a topic like
stewardship without realising they are doing some really good
quality RE! Finally I have already mentioned the film that is
out but recently over the last 2 months there has been a Sunday
Times magazine spread on terraforming Mars; a Volvo advert; it
is in the news every time new pictures from Mars are placed on
the Nasa site. As good classroom practice often is this unit is
of the moment |
